Xianjin yifeng 先進遺風 "Remainders of the traditions of the ancients" is a collection of stories written during the Ming period 明 (1368-1644) by Geng Dingxiang 耿定向 (1524-1596), who also wrote the story selection Shuofu baojian yaolan 碩輔寶鑒要覽, and Mao Zai 毛在, who supplemented Geng's initial version.
As its title suggests, the work selects stories about worthy ministers and loyal officials of the Ming dynasty who were "strict in moral discipline, refined in personal conduct, and imbued with sincerity and integrity". It loosely follows the model of the "records of exemplary figures" (dianxing lu 典型錄), popular during the Song period 宋 (960-1279).
The purpose of the book is to address the perceived moral decline of the times by presenting the noble virtues of earlier generations, in the hope of remedying contemporary social ills. However, due to its limitations, the work mostly records trivial aspects of daily life, with few accounts of major political affairs. As a result, it inevitably reflects a certain degree of local bias and a sectarian perspective.
The original text was lost, but parts of it with a length of of 2 juan are preserved in the series Baoyantang miji 寶顏堂秘笈, on which the edition in the Siku quanshu 四庫全書 is based. It is also found in the series Hubei guangzheng yishu 湖北光正遺書 and Congshu jicheng chubian 叢書集成初編.
