Xue Guangde 薛廣德, courtesy name Xue Changqing 薛長卿, was a high official of the late Former Han period 前漢 (206 BCE-8 CE). He came from Pei 沛縣 (modern Suixi 濉溪, Anhui) and was in his early years a scribe in the office of the Censorate (yushifu 御史府). Because he was proficient in the Lu 魯 version of the Confucian Classic Shijing 詩經 "Book of Songs" he was recommended for promotion by the Censor-in-chief (yushi dafu 御史大夫) Xiao Wangzhi 蕭望之 and was appointed professor (boshi 博士 "erudite") in the Shiqu Hall 石渠閣. Later on he became Grand master of remonstrance (jian dafu 諫大夫) and Chamberlain for the palace revenue (shaofu 少府) of the Changxin Palace 長信宮. In 44 BCE he succeeded Gong Yu 貢禹 in the office of Censor-in-chief. Xue Guangde was highly regarded for his frank and open words in his memorials to the throne.
