Lejiao siyu 樂郊私語

Lejiao siyu 樂郊私語 "Private conversations in a rustic retreat" is a collection of stories compiled during the Yuan period 元 (1279-1368) by Yao Tongshou 姚桐壽 (dates unknown), courtesy name Lenian 樂年, style Tongjiang Yuesou 桐江釣叟, from Muzhou 睦州 (in today's Zhejiang province). In the late 1330s, he served as educational instructor (jiaoshou 教授) in Yugan 餘干, Jiangxi, but then decided to retire to private life. In the last years of the Yuan period,he fled to Haiyan 海鹽, a place hitherto not affected by war.

The book of 1 juan presents 31 stories on contemporary matters, many of which provide evidence of the difficulties of the time. Even if the book is regarded as fiction, some information can be used to supplement historiographical information.

The text is found in the series Siku quanshu 四庫全書, Xu baichuan xuehai 續百川學海, Yanyi zhilin 鹽邑志林, Baoyantang miji 寶顏堂秘笈, Shuofu 說郛 and Xuehai leibian 學海類編.
