Zhuanxue suozhu 篆學瑣著

Zhuanxue suozhu 篆學瑣著, also called Zhuanxue congshu 篆學叢書, is a series of collectanea (congshu 叢書) compiled by Gu Xiang 顧湘 (1829-1880), courtesy name Cuilan 翠嵐, style Lanjiang 蘭江, Shidun Shanren 石墩山人 or Shidun Shanmin 石墩山民, from Changshu 常熟, Jiangsu. He was a famous collector of original ancient writings (with a focus on unpublished manuscripts) from the Song 宋 (960-1279), Yuan 元 (1279-1368), and Ming 明 (1368-1644) periods and owner of the studios Linglong Shanguan 玲瓏山館, Xiaoshi Shanfang 小石山房 and Zhenyitang 珍藝堂. His own collection of old seals was presented to the public in the book Xiaoshi Shanfang yinpu 小石山房印譜. Other precious books are included in the series Xiaoshi Shanfang congshu 小石山房叢書 and Linglong Shanfang congshu 玲瓏山館叢書.

Gu's series Zhuanxue suozhu, published in 1840, includes 30 old writings and catalogues on ancients seals. Part of them was written for producers of seals, others for collectors and conoisseurs. The series thus presents an ideal overview of Chinese scholarship on the art of seal carving. It has a total length of 40 juan.
