Meng Wu 蒙武 was a general in the state of Qin 秦 during the very late Warring States period 戰國 (5th cent.-221 BCE), a son of Meng Ao 蒙驁, and father of the famous general Meng Tian 蒙恬 (d. 210 BCE). In 285, he participated in his father's campaign against the state of Qi 齊. He served in 224 as lieutenant general (baijiang 裨將) under Wang Jian 王翦 during the conquest of Chu 楚, killed general Xiang Yan 項燕 of Chu, and captured King Fuchu 負芻, the last king of that country. Meng Wu thereafter continued with the occupation of the south, subdued the Hundred Yue tribes 百越, and founded the commandery of Guiji 會稽.
