Ping Tai jilüe 平臺紀略 "Military history of the conquest of Taiwan" is a history of the suppression of a rebellion in Taiwan by the troops of the Qing dynasty 清 (1644-1911). It was compiled by Lan Dingyuan 藍鼎元 (1680－1733), who took part in the campaign against the rebel Zhu Yigui 朱一貴 (1690-1722) in 1721-1723.
Zhu proclaimed himself king (wang 王), adopted the reign motto Zhongxing 中興 and was able to occupy the whole western plain of Taiwan. The Qing court dispatched the naval forces under Shi Shipiao 施世驃 (1667-1721) and Lan Tingzhen 藍廷珍 (1664-1730). The latter's brother Lan Yuanding acted as a spy and found out about the situtation among the rebels. When the campaign was over, he wrote his own book about the war. It is informative not only from the aspect of battling but also from the aspect of how Qing period wars were organised.
Lan Dingyuan also wrote many other books, like Dongzhengji 東征集 and Mianyang xuezhu 棉陽學準. His collected writings are called Luzhouji 鹿洲集, his "cases" Luzhou gong'an 鹿洲公案. He also took part in the compilation of the imperial geography Da-Qing yitong zhi 大清一統志.
