The type of miscellaneous histories (zashi lei 雜史類) is a sub-category to the literary category of historiography (shibu 史部) in the collectaneum Siku quanshu 四庫全書. It is first used in the imperial bibliography of the official dynastic history Suishu 隋書. In contrast to the dynastic histories, miscellaneous histories are chronicles of events of a defined affair or circumstance. They are also expressively written by an author bringing forwards his own view of historical events. For the oldest histories of this type, the Guoyu 國語 and Zhanguoce 戰國策, their commentaries are included in the section. The section of miscellaneous histories in the Siku quanshu includes 22 books. Other important writings are the Zhenguan zhengyao 貞觀政要 and Songmo jiwen 松漠記聞.
