Jiang Linji zazhi 江鄰幾雜志

Jiang Linji zazhi 江鄰幾雜志 "Miscellaneous notes of Jiang Linji", also called Jiayou zazhi 嘉祐雜志 "Miscellaneous notes of the Jiayou reign-era" (see ganzhi cycle), is a collection of anecdotes compiled during the Song period 宋 (960-1279) by Jiang Xiufu 江休復 (1005-1060), courtesy name Linji 鄰幾, from Chenliu 陳留 close to Kaifeng 開封 (in today's Henan province). Jiang was widely learned and well-read, wrote in a plain and unadorned style, and was especially skilled in poetry. He served as subeditor (jiaoli 校理) at the Academy of Scholarly Worthies (Jixian Yuan 集賢院), was demoted to tax supervisor (jianshui 監稅) in Caizhou 蔡州, and later held the position of Director in the Ministry of Justice (xingbu langzhong 刑部郎中). He also once participated in compiling the imperial diary of the period.

The contents of this book are all incidental anecdotes and curious stories, generally written in brief passages. Many entries resemble the style of the Shishuo xinyu 世說新語, such as Tian Yuanjun gui-he fuqi 田元鈞龜鶴夫妻 "Tian Yuanjun and the Tortoise-and-Crane Couple", Liu Jianhou dao mai guanshu 劉健侯盜賣官書 "Liu Jianhou's secret sale of official documents" and Ding Jingong wen zhongshi bu jing 丁晉公聞中使不驚 "Ding Jinggong's composure upon hearing of the imperial envoy". However, some stories have more developed plots with twists and turns, such as Zhang Guiya zhi Jiangnming fu 張乖崖知江寧府 "Zhang Guaiya governs Jiangning Prefecture". The accounts are fairly comprehensive, with clear beginnings and endings, giving them a certain degree of reference value.

In the bibliographical chapter of the statecraft encyclopaedia Wenxian tongkao 文獻通考 and the official dynastic history Songshi 宋史, the book is listed as being 3 juan long and titled Jiang Linji zazhi. The book catalogue Junzhai dushu zhi 郡齋讀書志 notes that this was the same book as the Jiayou zazhi. The descriptive bibliography Siku quanshu zongmu tiyao 四庫全書總目 states the length as 2 juan.

The book is found in the series Baihai 稗海, Tang-Song congshu 唐宋叢書, Xu baichuan xuehai 續百川學海, Shuofu 說郛, Baoyangtang miji 寶顏堂秘笈, Gujin shuobu congshu 古今說部叢書, Yanbaotang miji 寶顏堂秘笈 and Biji xiaoshuo daguan 筆記小說大觀. With the title Youjia zazhi 嘉祐雜志, it is included in the Siku quanshu 四庫全書.
